We’re looking for a Trainee SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school near Newcastle city centre, supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a brilliant opportunity to build your skills, give back to the community around you, and help young people in the local area get the support they deserve.
Many of the children we work with live in the surrounding areas of the city and have faced challenges that go beyond the classroom. What they need is someone who shows up with kindness, patience, and a steady hand—someone who helps them see that school can be a place where they feel safe and supported.
What you’ll be doing:
Providing one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
Helping children build emotional resilience and develop positive routines
Supporting learning inside and outside the classroom, with a focus on wellbeing and confidence
Working closely with teachers, therapists, and families to deliver tailored support
Making a direct impact in the local community by supporting children’s progress and development
