Position: Support Worker
Location: Croydon
Hours: Part-time, 13 hours per week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday)
Salary: Competitive, with mileage reimbursement at £0.45 per mile
About the Role:
As a Support Worker, you will play a pivotal role in assisting a 43-year-old man who faces daily challenges due to disabilities stemming from a traumatic head injury in childhood. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks aimed at enhancing his quality of life and promoting his autonomy. From aiding in light cooking, ironing, and laundry, to maintaining a tidy living space and ensuring he has essential toiletries and personal care items, you will be instrumental in supporting his daily routines. Additionally, you will facilitate his integration into the community, providing encouragement and assistance as he navigates social interactions and explores new opportunities for engagement. Furthermore, you will play a vital role in facilitating his technological literacy, guiding him in the safe and effective use of a mobile phone, internet browsing, and email communication.
Requirements:
1. Proven experience working with adults with cognitive or learning disabilities, ideally in a similar capacity
2. Strong understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, including epilepsy, short-term memory loss, and visual impairment
3. Exceptional empathy, patience, kindness, and compassion
4. Ability to foster independence and self-confidence while providing necessary support and guidance
5. Excellent communication skills and the capacity to establish rapport and trust with the individual and their support network
6. Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate the evolving needs and preferences of the individual
