Salary starting from £50,000 per annum plus up to 15% annual bonus and healthcare cover

The Communications Manager is responsible for the development and delivery of a strategic innovation communication programme across both the SP Energy Networks business, and external communication channels ensuring the delivery of clear, consistent, and effective messages to a range of audiences. The communications programme will comprise of multimedia channels, including a blend of traditional and technological solutions to deliver a step change in how we communicate across our organisation and externally with regards to innovation.

The postholder will play a key role within the Stakeholder & Communications team who manage internal and external communications for SPEN, they impact every part of our organisation and showcase our work to external audiences. They will provide direction and assistance to business leaders in relation to key strategic and operation messages, ensuring they are successfully delivered and understood.

What you’ll be doing

As the Communications Manager, you will:

Develop and deliver new and existing communications strategies, plans and activities.

Manage and coordinate multi-channel campaigns, ensuring consistency across digital, media, stakeholder, and internal communication channels.

Actively manage, develop and maintain a range of communication messages for all channels (podcasts, PR, social media, intranet, website, webinars, events, printed materials, videos etc), that support our projects in the delivery of strategic objectives.

Monitor and analyse communications effectiveness, using insights to refine strategies and improve engagement outcomes.

Provide solutions and know-how on communications and marketing best practice, ensuring the successful delivery of key messages both internally and externally.

Liaise with key external suppliers and agencies on production of creative communications and marketing material, ensuring completion to brief, within budget and to agreed timescales.

Work closely with the wider stakeholder and communications team, and local stakeholder teams, to ensure messaging aligns with strategic communications objectives at a business wide level.

Provide support to the communications team for general communications requests daily. This will also include contributions to wider team planning and reporting.

Work closely with SPEN Communications Manager to lead crisis comms response and storm resilience planning, ensuring effective communication before, during, and after extreme weather events.

What you’ll bring

We are looking for an individual who can work at a strategic level while also demonstrating a flair for content creation and design, able to create compelling promotional media such as videos, leaflets and beyond for internal and external audiences. Experience of working with agency partners to deliver projects is advantageous.

They will be delivery and results focused, ensuring high quality outcomes within the desired timescales and will be able to measure the effectiveness of communications - striving to continually improve and act on results and feedback.

As a manager, they will have the proven ability to lead and manage the delivery of communication interventions across a large and complex organisation with competing and shifting priorities. Detailed knowledge of communication and marketing tools and techniques and their practical implementation, including the latest technology and multimedia channels, is essential.

Qualified to degree level is desirable, but not essential.

To be successful, you will need to demonstrate as minimum:

Strong experience working in dynamic corporate communications, public relations, or stakeholder engagement environments, ideally within the energy, utilities, or regulated sectors.

Excellent content creation skills, with experience producing high-quality written materials for different audiences across multiple formats.

Experience of successfully communicating complex subjects at all audience levels. Particularly writing successful marketing material and business writing translating technical and regulatory information into accessible, engaging content.

Excellent influencing skills with experience working with senior leadership, media, and external stakeholders to shape and deliver impactful messaging.

Excellent leadership, communication, and inter-personal skills to motivate and influence managers and staff at all levels and to translate technical and regulatory information into accessible, engaging content.

Results focused with impeccable project management skills, you will be able to be able to prioritise to deliver high quality outcomes to tight deadlines.
