Established Artists Residency, Outdoor Dance and Movement
18–22 Jan 2026
Ormidale House, Argyll & Bute
Surge is inviting applications from dancers, circus performers, physical theatre practitioners and general movers, for a mentor led residency designed to give space for established artists to develop new ideas involving outdoor and indoor dance and movement. We also encourage applications that involve the integration of digital technologies.
The residency is designed to interrogate and develop ideas outside the rehearsal room. There are no designated rehearsal spaces at the residency (though there is plenty of space outdoors).
The residency will be led by highly experienced mentors Gianti Giadi (Indonesia), Hilary Westlake (UK) and Surge’s Melanie Jordan, Simon Biggs and Alan Richardson.
Surge welcomes applications from dancers, theatre makers, choreographers, designers, performers and directors, and we are happy to receive applications from collaborating artists. We encourage applications from under‑represented voices. We also encourage applications that involve the integration of digital technologies.

* Have a body of acclaimed professional work behind them in their specialist art form(s)
* Have an idea for the creation of a new work that uses movement as its primary form of expression
* The idea should be at an early stage of development

Surge will provide
* Experienced mentors to lead the residency
