Overview
Campus Services Marketing role at the University of Birmingham. This is a full-time, permanent position with a prospective starting salary typically in the range £36,636 to £46,049, with potential progression to £48,822. Closing date: 17 September 2025.
Location: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham UK. UK travel may be required for this role.
Responsibilities
* Develop and deliver innovative digital marketing campaigns to support Campus Services marketing activities, analyse their success, and use insights to refine during the campaign lifecycle.
* Develop and implement an SEO strategy and collaborate with the wider marketing & communications team to adopt best practice.
* Develop and implement PPC strategies that align with the strategic objectives of key areas of Campus Services.
* Forecast marketing campaign performance and growth, demonstrate ROI, and take corrective action on deviations to the allocated budget.
* Analyse previous campaigns and recommend refinements to the digital marketing strategy and processes for future success.
* Utilise key software (e.g., Google Analytics, Google Ads, Hootsuite) to inform and drive digital marketing activity.
* Maintain oversight of team workloads and support efficient processes to maximise output.
* Manage and maintain a portfolio of owned websites; implement content strategies and UX best practices.
* Measure and report on the performance of digital marketing campaigns; explore innovative concepts and apply them when appropriate (e.g., app development, virtual tours, AI).
* Collaborate with design and communication teams to develop integrated marketing plans and campaigns.
* Advise and develop marketing plans with the Conference & Events team to align with business priorities and adapt to changing priorities as required.
* Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external creative and digital agencies to deliver innovation in digital marketing and high-quality materials.
* Use market intelligence and benchmarking data to inform decisions and KPIs.
* Support the Head of Marketing & Communications to develop an email marketing strategy for various Campus Services areas.
* Oversee website development workstreams for owned digital properties, coordinating with retained web development agencies.
* Lead the creation of monthly performance reports across all Campus Services divisions, ensuring data accuracy and actionable insights for stakeholders.
* Manage the budget for digital operations, including platform subscriptions, agency retainers, development work, PPC and paid social campaigns.
Relationships
* Work with senior managers across Campus Services to determine goals and report on ROI from digital marketing activity.
* Line management responsibility for the Digital Marketing Assistant and Social Media Assistant, including workload management and performance feedback.
* Communicate confidently with clients and internal teams; lead on providing expert digital perspective from concept to delivery.
* Respond to feedback appropriately and share knowledge and best practice to develop the marketing team’s reputation.
* Build strong relationships with colleagues across the University to enhance and champion marketing activity.
* Provide professional digital marketing advice and guidance to Campus Services colleagues; act as a role model for Campus Services values and behaviours.
Innovation
* Proactively develop digital marketing campaigns, stay current with trends, and devise innovative ways to reach Campus Services audiences.
* Identify opportunities to support University objectives by building relationships across the University and external networks.
* Continuously develop own skills to ensure the team’s digital marketing meets current and future client needs.
* Engage in ongoing personal and professional development and support others through performance reviews.
General
* Represent Campus Services Marketing at appropriate committees and meetings, internally and externally as required.
* Promote equality and value diversity; foster an inclusive working culture.
* Support new projects within Campus Services as specified by the Head of Marketing & Communications.
* Support sustainability across the University, including involvement with ISO20121 event management standards where applicable.
* Any other duties commensurate with the grade.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
* Educated to Degree level (or equivalent) with relevant marketing/communications management experience; significant practical experience may be required where no equivalent qualification is held.
* Evidence of literacy and numeracy, ability to write clearly and to analyse information and data.
* Creative skills with experience in using them to identify target audiences and develop digital campaigns that engage, inform and motivate.
* Hands-on experience with HTML, CSS and content management systems.
* Understanding of marketing automation technology and web analytics software; strong SEO/SEM, email marketing and display advertising knowledge.
* Experience in optimising websites and landing pages; strong understanding of digital best practice and UX/UI design.
* Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple stakeholders with excellent organisational skills.
* Self-motivated and capable of working constructively with a wide range of colleagues.
* Knowledge of Equality Act 2010 protected characteristics and how to ensure fair treatment in day-to-day activity.
