The Role
We’re seeking a clinically experienced and proactive IUC Lead Clinical Practitioner to lead clinical quality, governance and service delivery across our Out-of-Hours (OOH) services. You will report to the IUC Medical Director and oversee Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Urgent Care Practitioners and Pharmacists across CAS, OOH bases and home visiting teams. You’ll provide visible clinical leadership, manage first-line performance and development, and support operational risk mitigation and patient safety. This role combines clinical supervision, operational oversight and quality improvement to ensure safe and effective care across urgent primary care pathways.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical leadership across Out-of-Hours services.
* Oversee performance, development and supervision of non-GP clinicians (Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Urgent Care Practitioners, Pharmacists).
* Drive clinical governance, patient safety, audits and quality improvement initiatives.
* Support operational risk mitigation and safe service delivery across CAS, OOH bases and home visiting teams.
* Collaborate with the Medical Director and wider leadership to shape clinical standards and service delivery.
What you’ll need
* Advanced Nurse, Paramedic, Clinical or Allied Health Professional with Independent Prescribing qualification
* Extensive experience in out-of-hours or unscheduled care (e.g., IUC, NHS 111, OOH)
* Proven clinical leadership and experience line-managing non-GP clinicians
* Strong capability in clinical governance, patient safety, audits and quality improvement
* Excellent communication, mentoring and supervisory skills
* Ability to manage complex clinical scenarios and performance issues with composure
* Passion for fostering colleague development, innovation and service excellence
* Proactive, flexible, and committed to delivering outstanding patient-centred care
