The role
As an Electrical Test Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of commissioning and testing electrical systems on Royal Navy submarines. This is a hands-on engineering role where your expertise will directly impact national defence and maritime safety. You’ll ensure systems are calibrated to exacting standards, contributing to the delivery of mission-ready vessels and supporting continuous improvement across our commissioning group.
Day-to-day you’ll be:
1. Conducting commissioning, testing and calibration activities on submarine electrical systems
2. Supporting the Senior Test Engineer to optimise team efficiency
3. Applying nuclear safety protocols and ensuring compliance with Clyde Safety Management Arrangements
4. Producing technical documentation and test reports
5. Diagnosing electrical faults and maintaining high safety and quality standards
This role is full time, 36 hours per week on a day shift pattern, Monday to Thursday 07:15 – 16:45 and is based on site at HMNB Clyde Faslane.
Essential experience of the Electrical Test Engineer
6. Strong electrical diagnostic and fault-finding skills
7. Effective interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
8. Understanding of commissioning processes (desirable but not essential)
Qualifications for the Electrical Test Engineer
9. Recognised Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship or HNC
10. Proven experience in a relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent)
