Senior Design Manager – East Midlands
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Design Manager to join the team at Galliford Try. Ideally based in or around the Leicester area, you will travel across multiple sites/projects in the region.
What you will be doing:
* Participate in creating a safe working environment.
* Manage relationships with the client, sub‑contractors and project and design teams for efficient development and delivery of designs.
* Monitor and lead the design process and provide updates to the Project Manager.
* Apply and monitor CDM 2015, principles of prevention and safety in design.
* Identify and mitigate design risk and realise opportunities through all stages of a bid or project.
* Assist in the selection of designers and ensure competency checks are undertaken.
* Develop scope and responsibilities for consultants, invite fees for the fee schedule, and manage the project fee schedule.
* Develop and manage programme with the Planner; oversee information release schedules, progress and quality of design deliverables.
* Contribute to value engineering and buildability by reviewing and resolving interface, buildability and coordination issues.
* Report on design progress, quality and consultant performance as required by operations and design management leads.
* Ensure designs are complete with drawings, specifications and schedules following the review process.
* Identify required design approvals and ensure information flow to the client, Galliford Try team and subcontractor.
* Lead design meetings, produce minutes, distribute them and close out actions.
* Ensure designs are within target cost allowances, liaising with the commercial team for advice.
* Manage statutory and third‑party processes such as planning, building control and BREEAM.
* Undertake site inspections to ensure the "as‑built" product meets design criteria.
About You:
* Good working knowledge of Health & Safety at Work Act and CDM 2015.
* Experience with design management tools (IRS, MIPD, DRM, programmes).
* Knowledge of design information: drawing types, specifications, schedules, reports.
* Experience with Common Data Environment: VfP approvals process.
* Understanding of statutory approvals (Building Control, Planning, CDM 2015, Fire Safety).
* Familiarity with RIBA Plan of Work and contract law.
* Experience in education/schools projects.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Experience or understanding of BIM.
