Duties and Responsibilities:
* SCA Analysts will provide socio-cultural overview for specified Areas of Interest (AOI) and provide detailed analysis of populations and their relationships with VEOs, TCOs and local Governments. Provide socio-cultural advice and expertise to deployed forces and staff. Provide atmospheric information outlining important historical events, leaders, group dynamics, attitudes, cultural norms and values. Highlight major components of human society: economic, demographic, legal/regulatory, political/institutional, social/cultural, religious/ideological, and relevant geographic variables to the operational commander.
* Research, analyze, and prepare analytical products encompassing the cultural, social, religious, and ideological beliefs of leaders and groups, as well as assess the attitudes, cultural norms, and values of local populations in support of tactical and operational needs for mission planning and execution.
* Respond to assigned RFIs by researching, analyzing, and producing finished intelligence including, but not limited to, Intelligence Studies, Desk Notes, PowerPoint briefings (with associated textual analyses and graphical representation of areas of interest), Intelligence Highlights or SOF Intelligence Bulletins at required classification levels.
* Upload all supporting data, including geospatial files, spreadsheets, link analyses, social networking analyses, nodal analyses, and cited materials to the SOF Geospatial Enterprise (SGE) or User Defined Operational Picture (UDOP) upon completion.
* Conduct tactical, operational, and strategic analysis to identify moderate populations capable and willing to counter extremist ideology.
* Analyze the socio-cultural factors making local populations vulnerable to extremists and their radical messaging as well as to threat entities involved in illicit activity.
* Analyze the socio-cultural factors which favor extremists and other threat actors/entities.
* Identify exploitable operational opportunities within the socio-cultural fabric of an AOI tailored for use within an asymmetric environment.
* Identify and conduct analysis to illuminate behavior patterns of populations vulnerable to extremist ideology, to include attitudes and sentiment, impact of adversary propaganda, and identification of strengths and weaknesses among groups and individuals within localized social networks.
* Respond to socio-cultural taskings and fuse socio-cultural analysis with other intelligence/disciplines into comprehensive, finished intelligence products; provide atmospheric information outlining leaders, group dynamics, attitudes, cultural norms and values.
* Synthesize detailed atmospherics information (e.g., cultural/social leaders, group dynamics, assessments of the attitudes, cultural norms, values of the local populace, etc...) to provide intelligence assessments in support of operational planning based on specific requirements.
* Support the operational planning process and provide feedback concerning changes that have implications for SOF operations, conflicts, and crisis.
* Acquire and extract SCA and geographic information from relevant current open-source data and archival material.
* Attend conferences, workshops, and meetings in support of the Command’s objectives.
* SCA analysts may be required to travel with the Commander and/or designated staff to countries in the AOR to provide real-time cultural intelligence (norms, customs, and values), assist with cross-cultural idiosyncrasies, and facilitate interactions and engagement with senior partner nation officials and representatives.
* Upon request, brief SOCOM/TSOC leadership, staff, visitors, and SOF on socio-cultural matters respective to the AOR/AOI.
* Analyst assigned to the PAS teams will conduct analysis IAW above guidance.
* Analyst shall produce at least four short term products per month and two multi-argument products per quarter as directed by their TSOC JISE reviewers.
* PAS analyst will assist in the production of a minimum of six acceptable products per year as deemed by TSOC reviewers.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
* 10 years’ experience conducting sociocultural analysis in the intelligence community.
* Graduate-level degree (MA/MS) in Cultural Anthropology, Applied Behavioral Analysis or Social and Cultural analysis or related field discipline or 5+ years on a PAS or HQ SCA team.
* 8 years’ experience with social/cultural studies (e.g., anthropology, sociology, political science, etc.) or development economics.
* 8 years’ IC or DOD all-source intelligence experience, including writing and briefing for senior IC/DoD customers
* 2 years’ experience working in a multi-skilled team environment collaborating on the all-source production of intelligence analysis
* Intermediate level certification on ArcGIS, analysts have a working knowledge and skills necessary to process GIS data and conduct spatial analysis, suitability analysis and create maps.
* 8 years’ experience utilizing All-source Intelligence Community tools and applications (Trident, TAC, etc.)
* Current Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
* Must have valid US Passport
