Overview of role: The Primary School Sports Apprentice is a member of the school support staff supporting the delivery of physical education and extracurricular sports activities for young students while gaining valuable experience and developing essential skills for future career in education or sports management. As a sports apprentice in a primary school setting, the role focuses on engaging and inspiring children to be active, healthy, and enjoying physical activity from an early age. To work as part of a team to promote the school’s ethos and values in the wider community Key details: Hours: Monday to Friday (8.45am to 4.15pm), 37.5 hours per week Term-time only (39 weeks per year) Wage: £7.55 per hour Location: Renwick Road, Barking, London, IG11 0FU Apprenticeship details: Qualification: Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification Duration of course: 16 months Training Provider: LMP Education (Rated No 1 Training Provider in the UK!) All learning delivered online/ remotely alongside placement at school. Full Duties and Responsibilities: Assisting the PE teacher in planning and delivering engaging sports lessons and activities Working across EYFS, KS1, and KS2 to support the teaching of PE Supporting children in developing their physical skills and confidence Supporting attendance at local sporting events Promoting team games during lunch breaks for EYFS, KS1, and KS2 Organising and training teams to participate in sporting festivals and competitions Running extracurricular activities Carrying out other duties as directed by the PE Lead or senior leadership team Supervising and teaching the PE curriculum under the guidance of the PE Coordinator, planning to achieve progression of learning through: Identifying clear lesson objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed Setting tasks that challenge pupils and ensure high levels of interest Setting appropriate and demanding expectations Setting clear targets, building on prior attainment Providing clear lesson structures that maintain pace, motivation, and challenge Making effective use of assessment to ensure coverage of the appropriate scheme of work Ensuring effective teaching and best use of available time Monitoring and intervening to ensure sound learning and discipline Skills & Personal Qualities: Enthusiastic with a genuine interest in working with children A strong team player who works well with others Reliable, committed, and punctual in all responsibilities Professional and well-organised, with excellent attention to detail Confident and self-motivated, with a desire to learn and grow Any experience volunteering or working with children is highly valued Qualifications Requirements: GCSE or equivalent (Functional skills) English (Grade 4) essential GCSE or equivalent (Functional skills) Maths (Grade 4) essential Next steps & Pre-employment checks: Permitting you’re eligible for the role) Please expect to receive contact from our LMP Education Recruitment team, to discuss your application further.
