Lead Integration Engineer – Birmingham

Salary up to £64,562 + 20% Flex fund on top of salary.
A leading client in Birmingham is seeking a Lead Integration Engineer to join their Platforms & Operations function. The role focuses on managing IT integration platforms, ensuring their delivery, maintenance, and availability while overseeing development and management services from suppliers. Responsibilities include providing technical leadership, defining integration strategy and architecture, and maintaining standards for API development and data movement. The position also oversees the operation and improvement of integration services and middleware platforms, ensuring performance, security, and availability.
Key Responsibilities & Skills
* Experience leading integration platform delivery and lifecycle management in complex IT environments.
* Design and oversee technical integration solutions across enterprise systems using APIs, messaging systems, or data pipelines.
* Collaborate with platform teams, architects, and suppliers to ensure integration aligns with enterprise architecture and business goals.
* Maintain operational stability of integration services through monitoring, incident management, and continuous improvement.
* Provide secure, scalable, reusable integration capabilities for delivery teams and projects.
* Strong knowledge of enterprise integration patterns and tools (APIs, ESB, messaging queues, event‑driven architectures, ETL/ELT).
* Familiarity with cloud‑native, hybrid, and middleware integration solutions (e.g., Azure Integration Services).
* Understand delivery methodologies (waterfall, agile, lean) as they impact integration planning and execution.
* Awareness of security, governance, and data protection in systems integration, including secure API management.
* Expertise in connecting enterprise platforms (ERP, HCM, data platforms) for resilient, scalable integration.
* Lead delivery and lifecycle management of integration capabilities supporting key enterprise platforms.
* Advise on integration patterns and best practices (point‑to‑point vs. platforms).
* Ensure rigorous version control, monitoring, maintenance, and incident response for integration components.
* Establish and manage inventory and governance processes for integration design, development, and policy compliance.
