Specialty Doctor - Ear, Nose and Throat

Overview
We are looking to recruit 2 Specialty Doctors within ENT to support our ENT workload. There is an opportunity for the successful candidate to enhance and develop their ENT skills that fit with the needs of the department. The Specialty Registrar will be responsible to the Lead Consultant for the service in which they are working at any given time. The on call commitment is 1:8, due to the integration of Essex wide ENT network service (since August 2008).
The post holder will be based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, but will undertake outpatient sessions at St Margaret's Hospital in Epping and Herts & Essex Hospital in Bishop\'s Stortford. It is likely that the venue of the outpatient clinics could change as required by the services of the specialty and Trust.
The job plan will include 9 Programmed Activities and 1 SPA (for supporting professional activities). This will be subject to the job planning process taking into account the special interest of the successful candidate. Please refer to the attached Job Description for an overview of the average week within the department.
Main duties of the job
* Care of patients pre and post op for ENT procedures
* Dealing with emergency ENT attendances
* Preparation of patients for theatre and liaising with anaesthetics
* Opportunities to attend theatre (to facilitate learning)
* Participation in duty rota and hand over
* Teaching and training of junior doctors
* Planning and providing junior doctors\' induction training
* Producing procedure protocols

Person Specification
* Able to run outpatient clinics with limited supervision
* Able to manage everyday ENT emergencies
* Clinical skills for ENT at ST4/5 level
* Able to drive/hold a driver\'s licence
* Able to perform basic ENT surgery under supervision
* Able to supervise and teach junior doctors and nurses
* Understanding of research and audit principles
