Overview

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to provide and support the highest standards of evidence-based clinical practice within the Crisis Assessment Unit / police pathway service. The Crisis Assessment Unit is a 6-bed unit that provides short-term inpatient assessments. The Police Pathway involves supporting patients through the pathway from initial referral, community assessment and through the s136 detention process where applicable. You will be working on both the Crisis Assessment Unit, Street Triage and the 136 Suite.


Responsibilities

* Provide and support high-quality, evidence-based clinical practice within the Crisis Assessment Unit and Police Pathway, including short-term inpatient assessments and the s136 process where applicable.
* Work on the Crisis Assessment Unit, Street Triage and the 136 Suite, with the ability to function under pressure and in a team or independently.
* Offer expedient and sound information to professionals referring into the service; perform triage and assessments; liaise with police, ambulance and other partners to minimize unnecessary emergency department transfers or detentions under the Mental Health Act.
* Be available for a 7-day-a-week rota, including long days, twilights and nights.
* Support individuals who may be distressed, experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness or intoxication, within the health-based place of safety; maintain sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act.


Qualifications and Skills

* Experienced and enthusiastic mental health practitioner with the ability to provide a quality service under pressure.
* Ability to work well in a team and independently, with a clear understanding of the interface between the criminal justice system, police, ambulance and partners.
* Strong triage and assessment skills and the ability to communicate and intervene with individuals who might otherwise be detained or transferred.
* Sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act.
