It is important that we provide a positive experience to everyone who works here and our focus on financial, lifestyle and wellbeing benefits ensures that this experience goes beyond the nine-to-five. As an employee at AG you will benefit from a flexible and agile culture. We are committed to making agile working accessible to all, balancing our employee's needs with the requirements of the team, the firm and its clients and living true to the values in our mindful business charter.

We are an equal opportunity employer and we do not discriminate on the basis of a person's gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation or any other protected characteristic. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds and communities. If you want us to make any reasonable adjustments during the application or interview process to help you perform to your best, just let us know.

The Team

The Real Estate Division is one of Addleshaw Goddard's largest. The Real Estate Disputes team (known internally as the RED team) is one of the largest and strongest in the UK, comprising 24 lawyers (including 5 Partners), plus paralegals and trainees. The RED team is based in 3 locations, being Leeds, London and Manchester.

The RED team has vast experience in acting on a range of high value, high profile and complex litigation cases, particularly in relation to institutional clients and occupiers with extensive property portfolios. It has been involved in a number of leading cases at all levels of the Court system including the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. Clients include an impressive range of corporate occupiers, landlords, leading investors, developers and infrastructure companies.

What does this role entail?

* Market leading team: Our Manchester team are ranked in Tier 1 by Chambers and Legal 500 and we have more named individuals than any other firm;
* Market leading cases: You can expect to work on a variety of property disputes (predominantly commercial property) including landlord and tenant, development, telecoms etc at all levels of the Court System.
* Working in a division that is strategically important to AG: As one of the firm's key areas of expertise, Real Estate is at the heart of Addleshaw Goddard and represents a formidable power-house. The division acts for some of the foremost investors, banks, developers and retailers including Standard Life, Scottish Widows, Threadneedle, British Land, Peel, Primark and Co-op.

You can expect a varied and broad mix of work in all forms of real estate disputes. Responsibilities will include dealing with (and in many cases supervising/being client facing for) a full range of landlord and tenant matters including lease renewals (contested and uncontested), dilapidation claims, service of break notices, forfeiture and possession actions. You will act (with Partner/Legal Director supervision) on a range of high-value, high-profile and complex litigation cases including those for retailers with extensive property portfolios and large scale landlords.

You will handle your own matters and assist the Partners and more senior members of the team on more complex matters. As a Managing Associate, you will also play a lead role in supervising junior members of the team. There will also be opportunities for client facing roles, such as account manager type roles for some of the division's large clients. For many cases, you will be first point of contact. You will play a significant role in working for clients that are key to the Division and to the firm.

This is a high performing, cohesive and busy team with excellent prospects for career development. We have a strong reputation for providing Associates and Managing Associates with early levels of responsibility within a supportive, stretching environment. At this stage in your career the team will take a genuine interest and support you with your development. We encourage Managing Associates to help the team in developing and building relationships with new and existing clients through business development initiatives.

Where will you work?

You will be based in the Manchester office. You will be encouraged to travel around the offices to build your internal profile and win work from our internal client – the wider real estate division. We operate a flexible, hybrid working system comprising a blend of working in the office and working from home.

Who will you be?

You will commercially aware, with not only a strong knowledge of the law but the ability to apply it effectively, giving our clients useful advice that is commercially beneficial to their businesses. You will have experience in client facing roles, taking instructions directly from clients and managing/delegating more routine matters, in addition to running your own less routine matters. You will also have experience assisting more senior members of the team with more complex matters.

Fundamentally, you need enthusiasm, resilience and ambition. That is, the ambition to improve yourself with the best possible work, making the most of the opportunities you will be given, whilst still having time to enjoy life outside work. You should be comfortable with the variety of work on offer, willing to embrace it and not be daunted.

We want to attract candidates who want to know how to become successful as part of a team culture.

You must have demonstrable academics or relevant experience or interests.

You can be sure that appropriate levels of responsibility will be given to you. In return we expect that you will welcome this and see this as an opportunity for your personal development.

What you don't know, we can teach, if you have these attributes.

What can you expect?

An attractive, market-leading pay package.

A supportive team culture where we all look out for each other, at all levels.

Regular engagement with senior lawyers who genuinely care about your development and training.

Regular firmwide and team training sessions that support this, plus access to all the sessions we have done before.
