We are looking for a Deputy Manager who shares our values and our commitment to providing high quality service. The role requires knowledge of the Health and Social Care Standards and a background in person-centred care planning within a care service. The Deputy Manager will be a mentor who can manage time effectively, keep meaningful records, run the shift efficiently and develop exceptional personalised service for every resident and their loved ones. Duties also include managing all junior staff to develop their skills and fostering positive working relations with external stakeholders.
Summary Of The Role
The position is a leadership role within a Care Home and is responsible for ensuring high-quality, person-centred care that upholds dignity, choice, and human rights. The postholder supports residents and staff while maintaining safe, effective service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Care & Support
* Lead the team to deliver care aligned with Human Rights legislation, National Care Standards, and Care Inspectorate requirements.
* Develop, review, and maintain personalised care plans based on ongoing assessment of each resident’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
* Support reablement approaches to help residents maximise independence.
* Participate in personal care, end‑of‑life care, and last offices when required.
* Promote meaningful social and recreational activities within the home and community.
Team Leadership
* Supervise, support, and guide staff daily; contribute to appraisals and development plans.
* Ensure staff are trained in new policies and protocols and oversee their implementation.
* Take responsibility for staff rotas to maintain safe staffing levels.
* Lead the Care Home in the Manager’s absence and report any issues affecting service delivery.
Communication & Relationships
* Build positive relationships with residents, families, carers, and external professionals.
* Ensure clear communication and involvement of staff in care planning and activity delivery.
Safety, Compliance & Administration
* Ensure safe administration of medication following recognised guidelines.
* Complete all required administrative tasks accurately.
* Report building defects and ensure timely resolution.
* Promote and adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements.
Essential Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
* Eligible for SSSC registration.
* Minimum SVQ 3 in Social Care (or equivalent).
* Willingness to undertake further training to HNC level.
* Supervisory/management qualification (minimum 15 SCQF credits at Level 7+).
Experience & Skills
* Experience supervising or leading social care staff.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to lead a care team and take charge of the Care Home when required.
* Trained and assessed in medication administration.
* Understanding of older people’s needs and the ability to create and update care plans.
* Awareness of health & safety, equal opportunities, and nondiscriminatory practice.
This is a permanent full-time post of 36 hours per week to be worked in accordance with service requirements.
