As an integral member of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) healthcare team, the Registered Professional Nurse (RN) upholds the YNHHS mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives to provide the highest level of patient-centered care. The RN practices professional nursing within the legal and ethical frameworks established by relevant nursing standards and laws. The role exemplifies leadership, delegation, collaboration, effective communication, and quality outcomes. YNHHS nurses operate under our professional practice model, which emphasizes autonomy and accountability. We value nursing governance and evidence-based practice, always keeping the patient and family at the center.
Responsibilities
1. Standards of Practice: The RN follows the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, which include assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, health teaching, health promotion, and evaluation.
2. Standards of Professional Performance: The RN demonstrates competent behavior in ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality, professional evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN is accountable for their actions and adheres to ethical and professional standards.
Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Current BCLS certification required within one month of hire.
Experience: All RNs encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical program.
Licensure: Licensed and registered in Connecticut. Specialty certification encouraged.
Physical Demands
Prolonged standing, walking, use of senses, exposure to infectious diseases, physical, mental, and emotional stress, and ability to assist with patient handling up to 300 pounds.
