Workshop Engineer (Band 4)
We are seeking a Workshop Engineer to join the West of Scotland Rehabilitation & Mobility Centre (WestMARC) at Yoker Depot. WestMARC provides rehabilitation technology services across six health boards in Scotland, supporting wheelchair and seating patients, as well as prosthetics.
The successful candidate will work within a small workshop and technical team, performing engineering, fabrication, and manufacturing tasks. Under the supervision of the Workshop Manager, responsibilities include:
* Providing technical expertise to the seating and wheelchair service within WestMARC.
* Machining and fabricating components and assemblies for complex manual and powered wheelchairs.
* Manufacturing, assembling, modifying, and repairing in-house seating systems.
* Maintaining communication and working relationships with clinical and technical staff to ensure efficient delivery and repair of wheelchairs, accessories, modifications, and cushions.
* Offering technical input in the assessment and development of modifications requested by the Bioengineering team.
* Developing, manufacturing, commissioning, fitting, and maintaining equipment, including instructing carers and users in routine equipment use per manufacturers’ specifications and clinical needs.
Applicants should have SVQ Level 4 / HND or equivalent knowledge and experience in a relevant engineering environment. Skills in using workshop equipment such as brazing and welding tools, CNC milling, lathe, polishing equipment, saws, and hand tools are essential. Proficiency in office IT packages, excellent communication, and organizational skills are required. The ability to handle sensitive situations calmly under pressure is also important.
