Quantity Surveyor (Groundworks & Earthworks Specialist)
GEDON Executive is seeking a skilled and ambitious Quantity Surveyor to join a respected Tier 2 Infrastructure Contractor based in Birmingham, UK. This is a superb opportunity for a commercially astute professional with a background in civils to specialise in groundworks and earthworks on a secure pipeline of major local projects.
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be instrumental in the commercial and financial management of significant infrastructure packages, ensuring these foundational elements are delivered profitably, on time, and within budget for projects across the Birmingham region. The company is poised to capitalise on major projects on the horizon in the West Midlands.
Key Responsibilities
* Commercial Control: Prepare and manage detailed budgets, forecasts, and accurate Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) specifically for earthworks, groundworks, and civils packages.
* Subcontractor Management: Lead the procurement process for subcontractors, including preparing tender documentation, negotiating terms, and administering interim payments and final accounts.
* Valuations & Payments: Prepare and agree monthly interim valuations with the client/PQS and ensure timely and accurate payment of the supply chain.
* Change Management: Accurately measure, value, and negotiate variations and compensation events, especially those related to complex ground conditions and scope changes.
* Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify and manage commercial and contractual risks associated with heavy civil and groundwork operations.
* Contract Administration: Assist in the administration of subcontracts and the main contract, ensuring strict adherence to contractual terms (e.g., NEC/JCT).
What You'll Bring
* Proven Experience: Demonstrable experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a UK-based Civils or Main Contractor environment.
* Sector Expertise: Direct commercial experience with Groundworks, Earthworks, or Infrastructure packages is essential.
* Commercial Acumen: Strong analytical and numerical skills with a keen focus on cost control, material optimisation, and maximising profitability.
* Contractual Knowledge: Solid working knowledge of standard forms of construction contracts, particularly the NEC suite, which is often used in infrastructure.
* Communication: Excellent communication and negotiation skills, capable of managing commercial relationships with subcontractors and clients.
* Qualifications: A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or Civil Engineering.
