Job Purpose
You will contribute to / make a leading contribution to the project Investigating Lung Repair in Cystic Fibrosis, working with Professor Robert Gray.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Plan and conduct assigned research individually or jointly in accordance with project deliverables.
* Document research output including analysis, interpretation of data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers.
* Develop and enhance research profile and reputation, contributing to publications of international quality in high profile refereed journals.
* Present work at international and national conferences, seminars, colloquia and workshops.
* Identify potential funding sources and assist in development of proposals to secure funding.
* Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings / workshops across the research Group / School / College / University and wider community.
* Organise, supervise, mentor and train undergraduate and postgraduate students and less experienced team members.
* Perform administrative tasks related to research group activities, including budgets and expenditure.
* Carry out modest teaching activities and associated admin as assigned.
* Keep up to date with current knowledge in the field.
* Engage in continuing professional development activities.
* Undertake any other duties of equivalent standing as assigned.
* Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with Strategic Plan.
Appointment at Grade 7
* Perform the above duties with a higher degree of independence, leadership and responsibility.
* Establish and sustain a track record of independent and joint published research.
* Develop expertise in research literature and environment, understand challenges and develop suitable strategy.
* Develop new live cell culture models to mimic injury and infection in the airway.
Knowledge/Qualifications
* Essential: SCQF Level 10 (Honours degree) in relevant subject or equivalent.
* Sufficient specialist knowledge and experience of relevant laboratory techniques.
* Comprehensive up‑to‑date knowledge of the wider subject area.
* Desirable: Awarded or recently submitted PhD or equivalent.
* Knowledge of air‑liquid interface cultures and in vitro tissue modelling.
* Knowledge of single‑cell RNA sequencing analysis.
* Knowledge of spatial biology techniques.
* For Grade 7: PhD plus track record of emerging independence or equivalent professional qualifications.
* Comprehensive up‑to‑date knowledge of current issues and future directions within the wider subject area.
* Knowledge of project specific technical models, equipment or techniques.
Skills
* Essential: Cell culture, data analysis, research creativity, cross‑discipline collaboration.
* Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and public presentation ability.
* Excellent interpersonal skills including team working.
* Workload / project / budget / people management skills.
* Extensive IT and data analysis/interpretation skills.
* Self‑motivation, initiative and independent thought.
* Problem‑solving skills and flexible approach.
* For Grade 7: Sufficient depth of relevant research experience, including postdoctoral experience.
Experience
* Essential: Relevant research experience appropriate to early career researcher.
* Cell culture and live cell assays experience.
* Experience of scientific writing.
* Proven ability to deliver quality outputs timely.
* Emerging track record of publications in a relevant field.
* For Grade 7: Track record of presentation and publication of research results in quality journals and conferences.
* Experience of making a leading contribution in academic activities.
* Demonstrated independence in experiment design and drafting of papers.
* Experience in undertaking independent research.
* Desirable: Emerging national or international reputation.
* Experience of working in an inflammation biology environment.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6/7, £33,951 - £37,694 / £41,064 - £46,049 per annum.
This post is full time and has funding until 22 July 2027.
