The Stroke Medicine Service at York Hospital provides comprehensive hyper‑acute, acute, and rehabilitation pathways. Key features include:

The service is undergoing expansion due to increased demand, consultant retirements, and a Trust-wide commitment to strengthening specialist stroke care. Your appointment would form a key part of this growth.
Main duties of the job
As a Consultant in Stroke Medicine, you will play a pivotal role in shaping & delivering high-quality specialist stroke care. Responsibilities include:

A 10‑PA job plan will be offered, including:
8. Direct Clinical Care : Hyper-acute/acute stroke sessions, TIA clinics, ward rounds, thrombolysis cover
9. Supporting Professional Activities : Mandatory 1.5 SPAs with potential to negotiate additional SPA time for leadership, research, or education roles
Job plans are reviewed annually & can be flexibly adapted to clinical interests such as:

Candidates wishing to explore a hybrid job between stroke medicine &, for example, elderly care, acute medicine or neurology will be encouraged

Essential criteria
17. Ability to demonstrate clinical experience and skill in the specialty
18. Demonstrates a sound knowledge of clinical governance practice

Qualifications

23. Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC
24. Hold of license to practise with the General Medical Council
25. Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Geriatric Medicine or General or Acute Medicine or Neurology via; -CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview)- CESR or - European Community Rights
26. BLS or ALS
