We are seeking a SEN Teacher to join a specialist provision supporting blind and partially sighted students aged 11–19, offering a highly personalised and empowering learning experience. About the Setting

This specialist environment:

* Supports blind and partially sighted learners aged 11–19
* Caters for approximately 80 students in a highly individualised setting designed around accessibility, independence, and specialist teaching approaches
* Provides tailored programmes focusing on academic progress, independent living skills, and enrichment/community participation to support confidence and self-esteem development

Students benefit from adapted learning materials, specialist equipment, mobility training, accessible technologies, and highly trained staff with expertise in visual impairment.

What You’ll Do

As an SEN Teacher in this specialist provision, you will:

* Deliver accessible, differentiated lessons adapted for learners with visual impairments
* Use specialist strategies such as tactile resources, large-print materials, screen readers, braille, and structured teaching approaches
* Support pupils in developing independent living skills, confidence and curriculum engagement
* Lead and collaborate with specialist staff, mobility officers, and support assistants
* Work closely with families and professionals to implement EHCP-aligned targets
* Encourage participation in enrichment, community activities and wider personal development
* Foster an environment that promotes independence, self-belief and academic achievement

Essential RequirementsPGCE with QTS

A recognised PGCE (QTS) is required.

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (Adult & Child Workforce)

Applicants must hold a current Enhanced DBS, registered on the Update Service.

SEN Experience or Strong Desire to Specialise in Visual Impairment

This may include:

* Teaching pupils with sensory impairments
* Experience with adapted learning materials
* A passion for accessible learning and assistive technologies

Strong Rapport-Building Skills

This role requires patience, empathy and a strong ability to create trust with learners navigating both academic and accessibility challenges.
