Principal Civil Design Engineer - Water Infrastructure (Clean Water / Pipelines / Reservoir Project)
12‑month contract (Inside IR35) | Hybrid | Manchester or Peterborough
Our client, a leading consultancy within the UK water sector, is expanding their team and seeking an experienced Principal Civil Design Engineer to support major new workstreams with Anglian Water, including the new reservoir project in the Fens and associated clean water pipeline infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage civil design activities for clean water infrastructure, pipelines, and reservoir‑related assets.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and multidisciplinary design teams.
Ensure all designs comply with Anglian Water standards, regulatory requirements, and JV governance frameworks.
Collaborate with internal engineering teams, JV partners, and external stakeholders.
Oversee the production, review, and approval of detailed civil design documents and technical reports.
Attend design reviews, project meetings, and contribute expert insights on engineering solutions.
Conduct site visits, including visits to Fens‑based project locations, to support delivery.
Maintain rigorous safety, quality, and environmental compliance standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Job Requirements
Significant experience in civil engineering design within the water/wastewater sector.
Strong understanding of clean water pipeline design and (ideally) reservoir or major infrastructure works.
Proven leadership capability, with experience managing design teams and complex project interfaces.
Proficiency in civil design tools and software (e.g., Civils 3D, MicroDrainage, GIS tools).
Ability to produce robust, detailed design documentation and engineering reports.
Excellent communication skills for engaging with multi‑disciplinary teams and client stakeholders.
Relevant engineering degree (or equivalent) required; chartership desirable.
Contract Details
12‑month+ contract with ongoing extensions likely due to programme scope.
Inside IR35.
Hybrid working - typically 2-3 days in the Manchester or Peterborough office.
Involvement in one of the UK's most significant upcoming clean water and reservoir infrastructure programmes.
