Job Description:
I have been assigned by an NHS Trust in the UK to help them recruit a Specialty Doctor in Stroke Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months.
Our client provides acute and complex services, including outpatient and diagnostic services, across their sites in West Sussex and Surrey. In 2019, their services were rated 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). They have received several accolades, such as winning the Health Service Journal Acute Trust of the Year in 2021 and the National Patient Safety Awards. They are among the top 20% nationally for staff recommending the Trust as a place to work or receive treatment, and their staff rate them highly for patient care and workplace environment.
The successful applicant will be enthusiastic and committed to delivering excellent Stroke care, working at the main site with a team of 3 Consultants in Stroke Medicine, 4 ST3+ equivalent, 5 ST1/2 equivalents, 1 FY1, and 1 Physician Associate.
Our Stroke Service has 36 beds for acute stroke patients, including 6 HASU beds in development. The unit accepts referrals from the Emergency Department and other sources. Thrombolysis is available 24/7, with out-of-hours support via the Regional Surrey Stroke Network. There is a robust thrombectomy pathway with St George's Hospital, London. Imaging includes CT angiography and CT brain scans, essential for stroke assessment.
Most patients have acute ischemic strokes or intracerebral hemorrhages, with some TIA and stroke mimics. The department offers opportunities for radiological and clinical experience, including procedures like LP. There are weekly TIA clinics and weekend clinics supported by Doctors from Acute Medicine. Senior support is available from Stroke Consultants during and outside working hours via telemedicine. The role involves active participation in educational activities, audits, and research, including monthly governance and mortality meetings.
The department is located in a pleasant suburb on London's outskirts, with access to international airports and reputable schools.
