Role Summary

You will join the Surgical Division as a Senior Clinical Pharmacist to lead and deliver a high-quality, proactive, and patient-focused clinical pharmacy service to surgical wards. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective medicines use, contribute to service development, and support junior pharmacists and trainees. The Surgical Division is highly supportive of pharmacy input and recognises the critical role pharmacists play in optimising patient outcomes.

LUHFT employs over 120 pharmacists across three sites, delivering clinical pharmacy services to all major specialties. This exciting post is based at the Royal site, supporting the Surgical Division, which includes a wide range of complex surgical specialties. There are opportunities for professional growth and development within this area.


Main duties of the job

* Provide leadership and delivery of a high-quality clinical pharmacy service to surgical wards, in line with professional standards, departmental procedures, and Trust policies.
* Provide safe, effective, and advanced clinical pharmacy services to surgical wards, ensuring optimal use of medicines in line with best practice and national guidance.
* Deliver clinical training, supervision, and mentorship to junior pharmacists, pre-registration trainees, and other pharmacy staff within the surgical division.
* Contribute to the development of clinical guidelines, protocols, and audits to improve patient safety and outcomes in surgical care.
* Provide non-medical prescribing services within the surgical division, working as an independent prescriber to optimise medicines use in surgical patients.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless pharmaceutical care throughout the surgical patient pathway, including pre-operative and post-operative care.
* Participate in service development initiatives and quality improvement projects to enhance the role of pharmacy within surgery.

Skills

* Essential: Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
* Essential: Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team

* Desirable: Ability to affect and manage change


Qualifications

* Essential: Vocational Masters degree in pharmacy
* Essential: Membership of The General Pharmaceutical Council
* Essential: Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience
* Desirable: MRPharmS
* Desirable: Full NMP qualification


Experience

* Essential: Significant experience in a relevant specialist pharmacist role
* Essential: Antimicrobial stewardship experience
* Essential: Demonstrable commitment to continuing professional development
* Desirable: Experience as a Non-Medical Prescriber


Other

* Essential: Computer literate


Knowledge

* Essential: Excellent clinical knowledge and practical clinical skills for the relevant specialist role
* Essential: Good all-round clinical knowledge and practical clinical skills
