Location: Padiham (initially), then Accrington Stanley Football Club (Sky Bet League Two)
Accrington Stanley, ‘The Club that wouldn’t die’, is seeking a hands-on, qualified Management Accountant / Financial Controller to oversee and lead the club’s finance function.
About the Role:This is a rare opportunity to join a close-knit, community-driven club with a proud history and exciting future. You'll play a crucial role in supporting the club’s financial health, compliance, and long-term sustainability. You will report directly to the Group FD and work closely with the club’s CEO.
Key Responsibilities:
* Full responsibility for day-to-day financial operations of the club.
* Payroll administrationfor staff and players
* Preparation and submission of VAT returns
* Monthly management accountsincluding commentary and analysis.
* Annual budgetingandcashflow forecasting/analysis
* Ensuringcompliance with EFL regulationsincluding submissions and reporting.
* Supervision and supportof an existing bookkeeper.
* Matchday ticketing operations(including oversight of systems and reconciliations).
* Liaising with club directors, auditors, and external bodies.
About You:
* Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA or CIMA)
* Demonstrated experience in a similar financial controller or senior accounting role. Prior experience in both practice and industry preferable.
* Highly organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple responsibilities.
* Confident using accounting software and Excel (Sage experience desirable).
* Willingness to roll up sleeves – from high-level reporting to hands-on bookkeeping.
* Must be available to work on home fixtures as matchday presence is required.
* Eager to contribute to a growing club that serves its local community
