As a key member of the Taw Valley QEHS Laboratory team you will be working to deliver the efficient running of the laboratory ensuring that our products and material meet the high safety and quality levels expected. Some key responsibilities:


Responsibilities

* Carrying out all duties expected of a Lab Assistant
* Schedules and supervises day to day laboratory activities in coordination with QEHS Team Leader.
* Manages external laboratory relationship & systems and updates testing matrices/suites and schedules.
* Manages stock levels and ordering of laboratory supplies through Ariba.
* Manages laboratory equipment and production Quality instrumentation service, calibration, maintenance and verified methods are used.
* Produces, updates and trains laboratory testing, method and equipment SOPs in line with current testing requirements.
* Maintains and updates EcoOnline Chemical Management System and Risk Assessments for laboratory reagent and materials.
* Maintains and updates Analytical Trust to keep testing instruments in range.
* Analyses and evaluates products and materials to check and ensure that quality and approved analysis standards are met.
* Contributes to a healthy, inclusive and safe working environment.
* Contributes to quality/food safety in own area of responsibility and quality/food safety mindset.
* Contributes so the department complies with Arla Foods' standards, policies as well as applicable law and Health, Safety & Food safety procedures and mind‑set.
* Interprets results of analyses and escalates non-conformance issues as required.
* Communicates and reports results to the relevant department.
* Ensures correct use of defined company standards and procedures.
* Coaches teams and individuals within the quality function at site.
* Liaises with customers in relation to reporting, CofAs/Declarations, investigating issues, complaints, queries and coordinating customer audits to support and enhance customer satisfaction.
* Part of Internal Auditing Team


Candidate Requirements

Applicants must be physically fit as a large part of the day required spending time at the bench conducting analysis and in the factory collecting samples.

The successful candidate will ideally have vocational / technical education and have experience in laboratory practice or worked in a similar role. They are a strong communicator with an understanding of food safety principles and practices. You will be a team player with an exceptional attention to detail and be IT literate (including the use of Microsoft Office and SAP).

Site Information

The Taw Valley site is situated in West Devon. Taw Valley Creamery produces award‑winning, high‑quality cheeses including Tickler, BOB, Cheddar and Red Leicester for our retail and food service customers. The Creamery has received a £180 million investment to become a state‑of‑the‑art cheese production site across Cheddar & Mozzarella categories – one of the largest single UK investments for Arla Foods.
