Overview

A lady from Penygroes with Multiple Sclerosis is in need of a Female Personal Assistant for 12 hours per week split between 2 days (Tuesday & Thursday mornings, 6 hours per day) to provide support with daily living tasks. Must be flexible because days may change depending on appointments. This post is funded through the Direct Payment scheme and is intended for this lady to maintain her independence.


Responsibilities

* Assist with daily living tasks.
* Light domestic duties such as ironing and hoovering.
* Support with meal/snacks preparation.
* Support with shopping.
* Support with accessing community activities, and appointments.
* Carry out any other reasonable requests that may be asked by the employer or their family from time to time.
* Able to use own initiative and be self-motivated.
* Reliable and good time-keeping.
* Sociable and good sense of humour.


Additional Duties and Personal Responsibilities

* Support the employer with encouragement in gaining independence and developing independent living skills.
* Provide companionship in the employer's home, including engaging in conversation and providing social interaction.
* Encourage the employer to attend appointments and ensure safety at all times during working hours.
* Be mindful of safeguarding issues and feedback any concerns to Carmarthenshire County Council immediately on (01267 228751).
* Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.
* To ensure compliance with Data Protection Act.


Relationships and Working Environment

* Ability to develop supportive and caring relationship with the employer and undertake duties in a friendly and helpful manner.
* Able to contact people on behalf of the employer when necessary.
* Working in the employer's home and supporting them to access facilities and community activities.
* Must like animals as the employer owns a dog.


Qualifications and Requirements

* Caring, patient and friendly; reliable, honest and trustworthy; proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative.
* Local knowledge of the area where the employer lives; hospital appointments may be in Haverfordwest, Carmarthen, Llanelli or Morriston; confident use of Satnav/Google Maps to reach locations.
* Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties as determined by the employer's requirements.
* Ability to keep simple records such as time recording.
* Good communicator able to talk to people on behalf of the employer when required.
* Ability to develop long-term supportive and consistent relationships with employers.
* Must be 25 years or older, hold a full clean driving licence and have at least 5 years driving experience (will need to drive employer's Motability car, which is a large SUV).
* Will need to be able to lift the employer's wheelchair (approx. 16 kg) and handle it safely.
* Be prepared to undergo training to best meet the employer's needs.

A Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check will be undertaken for this post. This will be completed on acceptance of the job offer.
