We are seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist who will work at Cygnet Kenney House and provide senior medical cover on our 16 bed Acute service for women.
Main duties of the job Cygnet Kenney House is our hospital for women, located in Oldham. It offers a safe and secure care pathway for women with mental health needs and has three wards: Billington Ward (12 bed specialist Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit), Baldock Ward (16 bed Acute service) and Harben Ward (16 bed mental health rehabilitation and recovery service). The Acute and PICU environments provide rapid access to care, supporting women to move quickly and safely to the most appropriate setting, while the rehabilitation ward supports transition from Acute and external referrals.

Up to £170,000 per year (depending on experience)
The post holder is the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients, audit the medical services rendered at the ward and ensure quality in accordance with GMC standards and other relevant professional guidelines.
The role is based on Baldock Ward, our 16 bed female emergency acute inpatient service, providing a safe and stabilising environment for women in acute episodes. There is potential for progression to a Medical Director position.

Main duties and Responsibilities
Lead on the provision of high quality care to service users admitted to Baldock ward
Act as a positive role model, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors and other staff
Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team
Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis & treatment
Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews & clinical audits
Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management & embed clinical governance within the service
Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals & managers hearings & attend hearings
Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and approval of leave as required
Maintain accurate patient records
Ensure and maintain regular communications with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
Communicate effectively through regular contact with patients, relatives, staff, directors and other concerned bodies; maintaining appropriate reports
Attend and contribute to academic meetings and adhere to CPD standards set out by the GMC, the Department of Health and the Royal College of Psychiatrists
Contribute to telephone on‑call rota

We are looking for someone who is
Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status
Experienced & knowledgeable in general adult psychiatry
Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act, Code of Practice, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
A first‑rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
Committed to continued professional development
Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
A member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent
Requirements
The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check and an offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.
