Class teachers hold the key pastoral responsibility for the members of their teaching group and should:
1. Promote high expectations of work and behaviour
2. Provide rewards and sanctions in class within the school framework for managing behaviour.
3. Monitor levels of attendance and timekeeping and encourage promptness and regular attendance.
4. Encourage pupils to have a positive view of themselves as learners.
5. Ensure the best possible relationship with parents by making them welcome in school and finding ways to report progress and concerns.
6. Promote positive behaviour throughout the school.
7. Lead assemblies as required.
Responsibilities:
8. Take the responsibility of safeguarding children seriously, and, following best practice, contribute to the safeguarding practices in school.
9. Teach groups of children ensuring the curriculum is differentiated to meet all necessary levels of ability.
10. Plan teaching and learning for pupils according to the school’s systems.
11. Monitor and record progress, promoting children’s achievements whenever possible.
12. Write reports and contribute to reviews and case conferences when required
13. Work within a curriculum team, having responsibility for one or more subject areas as specified from time to time.
14. Report on the subject to the Headteacher as required
15. Participate in such meetings as are called within directed hours.
