About the Role
An Urban Designer is required to join an established, employee-owned architectural and urban design practice based in Bristol, Somerset. This permanent, hybrid position sits within the Architecture & Urban Design sector and is suited to an early-career professional with a minimum of one years UK experience in an urban design or architecture practice.
The Urban Designer will support masterplanning and placemaking projects across a range of scales, from town centre regeneration schemes to urban extensions and strategic masterplans. Working within a collaborative Bristol studio of approximately 30 professionals, the Urban Designer will contribute to landscape-led, climate-conscious design proposals for both public and private sector clients.
This role offers the opportunity for an Urban Designer to develop within a growing studio environment, supported by structured mentoring, cross-office collaboration and a clear progression framework.
Key Responsibilities
Support urban design and masterplanning projects across a variety of scales and typologies
Assist with concept development, site analysis and placemaking strategies
Produce high-quality graphics, visualisations and CAD drawing packages using Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD and Rhino
Contribute to design reports, supporting statements and written documentation
Work collaboratively with Associates, Directors and multidisciplinary teams across architecture, landscape architecture and environmental planning
Coordinate input from consultants and stakeholders where required
Ensure designs align with UK planning policy and placemaking frameworks
Participate in design reviews, studio discussions and project meetings
Engage in a structured Personal Development Plan with an assigned mentor
Required Skills and Experience
Degree in Urban Design or Architecture
Minimum 1+ years UK experience within an urban design or architectural practice
Strong conceptual urban design and placemaking skills
High-quality portfolio demonstrating clear design thinking and graphical ability
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD and Rhino
Working knowledge of 3D modelling; Revit desirable
Experience contributing to town centre, urban extension or strategic masterplanning projects
Sound understanding of UK urban design principles, planning policy and placemaking frameworks
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage design tasks independently while contributing effectively within a team environment

£29,000 £35,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
