Job overview Are you a seasoned commercial lawyer seeking a dynamic in-house opportunity where your expertise can make a real impact? We’re looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Legal, Risk & Compliance team at Synnovis, one of the UK’s largest pathology providers and part of SYNLAB Group, Europe’s leading provider of laboratory diagnostic services. In this pivotal role, you’ll lead on a wide range of commercially focused transactional legal matters, working closely with key business areas including Operations, Procurement, IT, R&D, Business Development, and HR. You’ll also collaborate with our NHS service partners, helping to shape the future of pathology services. This is a highly varied position offering exposure to a broad range of legal issues. You’ll also provide support across Property & Facilities, Intellectual Property, Employment, Company Secretarial, Data Protection, as well as providing day-to-day ad hoc legal advice. You’ll report directly to the Director of Legal, Risk & Compliance, with excellent visibility across the Synnovis and UK & Ireland leadership teams. Advert As Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll play a key role within our Legal, Risk & Compliance team, reporting directly to the Director of Legal, Risk & Compliance. This high-impact position offers exceptional exposure to senior leaders across Synnovis and the wider UK & Ireland business. You’ll be the go-to legal expert for a broad range of matters, delivering agile, solution-oriented advice that supports strategic decision-making across the organisation. Your primary focus will be on supporting our teams helping to drive innovation and operational excellence. Detailed job description and main responsibilities As Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll play a central role in supporting the legal needs of a fast-paced, innovative organisation. Your responsibilities will include: Providing strategic and day-to-day legal advice across a wide range of areas including commercial contracts, property, intellectual property, employment law, data protection, regulatory compliance, and procurement law. Supporting new business opportunities by offering commercial legal guidance throughout the tender process—participating in dialogue and negotiations, drafting and reviewing contracts in collaboration with external counsel, and overseeing legal aspects of operational and clinical proposals. · help develop the organisation’s intellectual property rights (IPR) strategy and overarching approach to IP governance and value creation, Leading and influencing negotiations to secure optimal legal and commercial outcomes, ensuring value is maximised and risk is minimised. · Provide comprehensive legal support across group litigation cases. · Manage and support all aspects of personal injury claims, including intake, investigation, documentation, and resolution. In this varied and hands-on role, you’ll take ownership of a broad spectrum of commercial contracts, such as: Asset purchase agreements Equipment leases Customer and supplier contracts Clinical trial and research agreements (e.g. letters of intent, collaboration agreements, funding agreements, MTAs) Pathology testing and logistics contracts Software development and maintenance agreements Settlement agreements and NDAs Synnovis is a 15 year pathology services partnership between SYNLAB UK&I, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust that was formed in 2021 to serve almost 2 million patients, and 191 GP practices across 249 sites. It is currently delivering one of the largest NHS pathology transformation programmes in the UK to date, including the development of a cutting-edge, 10 floor laboratory hub in Blackfriars, London. SYNLAB and Synnovis corporate function operates from the 8 th floor of the hub which less than a 5 minute walk from Southwark Tube or Blackfriars station and nestled closely to a vast array of entertainment and fabulous places to dine, relax and meet people.
