Permanent 0.8 WTE Older People Inpatient Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist at Harplands Hospital

Do you want to join an experienced older person's psychology team consisting of a Consultant & Senior Psychologist, Trainees & Assistants? Main duties of the job

The Harplands Hospital welcomes applications for a Principal Psychologist to work with the MDT on two co-located older people's wards. We seek someone with the clinical skills and experience to work with older people with a full range of mental health difficulties and dementia. The successful applicant will provide highly specialist psychological assessments, individual & group interventions, and be involved in teaching & training for ward staff, reflective practice, consultation, and team-based formulations around challenging behaviors. Opportunities to conduct neuropsychological assessments and develop skills in this area are available.

You will work alongside a supportive older person's psychology team and be part of the A&UC Psychology team, with direct support and consultation from a Consultant Psychologist. The post includes clinical supervision from the Consultant Psychologist and managerial supervision with the Ward Manager, as well as access to specialist neuropsychology supervision.

Beyond direct clinical work, you will contribute to service development, quality improvement, and research projects. Professional development and training are actively encouraged and supported.

Person specification


Qualifications

* Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, multiple psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology.
* HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist.
* Post-doctoral training in additional specialized psychological areas.
* Training in clinical supervision and supervision of doctoral trainees.


Experience

* Substantial experience working as a qualified applied psychologist across diverse client groups, settings, and clinical severities.
* Experience liaising and collaborating with statutory, voluntary, and private sector agencies.


Desirable criteria

* Experience working within physical health or hospital settings.
* Leadership experience.


Key duties/responsibilities

* Conduct highly specialist psychological assessments for clients with complex conditions.
* Recognize and report signs of harm, abuse, neglect, and poor clinical practice; ensure safeguarding procedures are followed.
* Perform risk assessments and manage risks, providing advice to other professionals.
* Develop and implement psychological treatment plans based on evidence-based practices.
* Use psychological formulations to guide interventions, adjusting as needed.
* Provide psychological advice and guidance to staff, contributing to diagnosis, formulation, and intervention planning.
