Walsall Council is seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner AMHP to join our Mental Health Hub. Working on a rota that includes some out‑of‑hours and weekend cover, you will lead and undertake Mental Health Act (MHA) assessments, provide expert advice across the service and champion least‑restrictive, anti‑discriminatory practice. Key Responsibilities
1. Act as Lead AMHP for MHA1983 assessments, ensuring legal compliance and the highest professional standards.
2. Provide clinical leadership, mentoring and supervision to AMHP colleagues and wider MDT staff.
3. Contribute to the 24/7 rota (including evenings and weekends) for urgent MHA assessments.
4. Maintain accurate records on Mosaic and produce clear, timely statutory reports.
5. Liaise with health partners, police, legal services and Approved Clinicians to coordinate safe, person‑centred outcomes.
6. Promote awareness of the power dynamics and potential discrimination within MHA practice; drive continuous service improvement.
Requirements
1. Qualified Social Worker / Nurse / OT or Psychologist with current professional registration.
2. Approved Mental Health Professional status with a minimum of three years’ post‑qualification AMHP experience.
3. In‑depth knowledge of the MHA1983/2007, MCA2005, Human Rights Act and related case law.
4. Familiarity with Mosaic (or similar case‑management system) desirable.
5. Ability to work autonomously, manage complex risk and make sound decisions under pressure.
6. Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential).
