We are recruiting a Tax Accountant support the Head of UK Tax in delivering on time, every time UK personal tax compliance for the group's 500+ partners and former partners.
Candidate Overview:
We are looking for candidates who ideally hold the following skills and experience:
Main duties and responsibilities:
* Assisting the Head of UK Tax in delivering all aspects of the recurring annual personal tax compliance timetable. Some assistance will be required at the level of the overall population (e.g. relating to completeness of population for whom returns or payments are required), other assistance will relate only to the portfolio of individuals delegated by the Head of UK Tax.
* The type of activities include:
o creating and maintaining control schedules to ensure completeness of population for whom personal tax returns are required and recording where responsibilities lay if not with the in-house team;
o promptly registering partners as self-employed for National Insurance and ITSA purposes and putting authorisations in place with HMRC for Pinsent Masons to act as tax agent;
o preparing aide memoires to send to partners at the start of the new tax year;
o preparing ITSA returns (including amendments to estimated prior year returns, where required) for review by the Head of UK Tax, computing taxes owed or overpaid and dealing with any related personal tax issues including splitting liabilities between those to be funded by Pinsent Masons from tax reserves and those to be funded by the partner personally or their former / current firm;
o preparing banking instructions and supporting schedules in relation to payments, e.g. to HMRC and to release tax reserves to partners as required at all stages of the tax reserving life cycle;
o assistance with building and maintaining tax reserves;
o liaison with partners, former partners and third party agents or advisers.
o Filing personal tax returns and providing partners with submission reports in relation to the partner population.
o Record the progress and status of tax returns.
o Track information received from partners to determine additional information needed to prepare tax returns.
o Analyse income and expenditure to assist in the preparation of the firm's business tax computation
o Provide ad hoc cover for the Partnership Tax Accountant role and support that colleague at less busy points in the personal/business tax compliance cycle if called upon to do so
Qualifications:
Formal accountancy or tax qualification is desirable. This requirement could be fulfilled by experience, e.g. 3+ years spent in the tax practice of a large accountancy firm, specialising in UK personal taxation and including experience of preparing UK income tax returns. Study assistance may be available for a qualified accountant who wishes to pursue a tax qualification.
