LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT: SENIOR SCHOOL (ONE YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT)

Reporting to: Assistant Head: Senior School (Head of Learning Support)
Job Purpose: To be a committed and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to support teaching and learning at Queen Mary's School.
This role is a 1 Year Fixed Term contract for a One-to-One position to support complex needs of a high attaining GCSE pupil.
Salary: £25,500 FTE (circa. £19,500 pro-rata).
37.5 hours per week
Term Time Only: 34 weeks per year plus 5.6 weeks holiday pay
5 INSET days

THE ROLE
•To support and promote the educational development and behaviour of a high attaining GCSE pupil, working under the direction of Class Teachers and the Assistant Head: Senior School.
The role may include:
•To plan and lead timetabled small group and individual learning support sessions, focussing on literacy, numeracy and communication and interaction / social skills.
•To plan and lead timetabled small group and individual English as an Additional Language (EAL) support sessions for international pupils at the school.
•To promote the inclusion and acceptance of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities within the classroom and across the whole school
•To support Class Teachers in ensuring that the range of pupil abilities in the classroom is appropriately catered for and met with well-resourced, differentiated learning opportunities
•To have an awareness of and effectively use a variety of methods to support effective learning within the mainstream classroom
•To support the use of ICT in the classroom and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use
•To be involved in keeping records and evaluating identified pupils’ progress, including carrying out classroom observations, and feeding back outcomes to the Head of Learning Support
•To assist with the supervision and support of pupils during break and lunch times, in accordance with the published rota of duties
•To assist the Head of Learning Support in ensuring that all pupil paperwork relating to SEND is up to date and accurate, for example Pupil Passports, Pupil Support Plans etc.
•As necessary, to communicate with parents with support from the Head of Learning Support
•To participate in the Staff Appraisal process, attend INSET (start of term and relevant twilight sessions) and undertake Continued Professional Development
•To abide by the Staff Code of Conduct
•To be supportive of the School’s aims, agreed teaching styles, methods of assessment and other policies
•To work as part of a team, in harmony with and for the furtherance of the School’s ethos and declared educational aims and priorities
Essential Criteria
Maths and English GCSE at Grade C+ or equivalent
Desirable Criteria
A relevant Teaching Assistant Qualification
First Aid Training

Support Staff: Learning Support Assistant: Senior School
The following particulars do not form any part of an offer of employment. Terms and conditions, which will incorporate the Staff Handbook and contract of employment, will be documented in due course to the successful candidate.
•The Learning Support Assistant is appointed by the Head, subject to enhanced DBS clearance and receipt of two satisfactory references. The successful candidate will be required to complete a confidential pre-employment health questionnaire.
•This role is a 1 Year Fixed Term contract for a One-to-One position to support complex needs of a high attaining GCSE pupil. This is a full time (term time only) role plus 5 In-service Training Days. However, consideration will be given to those seeking part time hours.
A competitive salary in the range of: £25,500 FTE (circa. £19,500 pro-rata) will be paid for this role depending on experience and qualifications. This will be paid in monthly instalments in arrears from the agreed date of the appointment and inclusive of holiday pay

•The appointment is subject to a 3 month probationary period which may be extended following a performance review
•The appointee will be expected to participate in an annual appraisal process
