Job Purpose
To advise the Council on the most appropriate and cost effective standards of fire safety in its premises and work operations in accordance with the relevant statutory requirements and codes of practice.
This role requires as a minimum one day in the office which is on a Monday. The successful applicant can work from home for the remainder of their time, other than when visiting premises.
Main Duties
These are some of the typical duties you will be expected to perform. This is not exhaustive, and you may need to complete similar tasks as required.
1. To carry out fire risk assessments, fire safety inspections and DSEAR assessments of Council premises, sites and work operations as required.
2. To provide advice and guidance to directorates regarding fire safety to assist in identifying and mitigating risk.
3. To carry out investigations of any fire safety related incidents as required.
4. To prepare, assessments, CAD fire safety plans and reports.
5. To support the development and monitoring of corporate policy and strategies in relation to the Council’s internal fire safety standards and codes of practice.
6. To assist in designing, procuring and delivering appropriate fire safety training.
7. To keep up to date with developments in fire safety related legislation, technical standards and disciplines/approaches to fire safety management and advise the Council accordingly.
8. To develop and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with directorates and relevant external stakeholders as appropriate.
9. To represent the council at relevant local, regional and national meetings and forums as required.

Personal Specification
Essential
1. NVQ L3 qualification as a minimum in fire risk assessment or fire safety audit.
2. Recent experience carrying out fire risk assessments in a range of premises in different sectors, producing reports incorporating proportionate, costeffective advice, and can provide examples.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of fire safety regulations and relevant technical standards, to advise and support managers set standards and drive fire safety improvements and can provide examples.
4. Ability to prioritise and plan a busy workload to support service delivery to internal and external clients and can provide examples.
5. Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously and can provide examples.
6. Effective verbal and written communication skills, including analytical skills and use of IT skills and can provide examples.
Desirable
1. Membership of IFSM (or working towards membership).
2. NVQ L4 qualification in fire risk assessment or fire safety audit.
3. Experience in conducting DSEAR assessments.
4. Experience in fire safety investigation to identify causes and make appropriate recommendations to prevent future fires.
5. Experience in delivering fire safety awareness training/presentations.
6. Possess and maintain a valid driving licence and be willing to drive, as required by the role.
