Position-Specific Performance Expectations, Duties, And Responsibilities

* Renders basic life support procedures to patients in a variety of settings consistent with state and local operating protocols.
* Ability to work a variety of shift lengths that may include 12-48 hour shifts, on-call shifts, and standby/special events of varying hours.
* Ability to provide accurate oral reports to designated medical personnel.
* Assists in extricating trapped victims.
* Transports sick and injured persons to the appropriate health care facility.
* Must possess the ability to read, understand, and converse in the English language, road maps, and accurately discern street signs and address numbers.
* Must possess the ability to use good judgment and remain calm in high-stress situations and work in an environment with loud noises and flashing lights.
* Lifts and places patients on a stretcher, restrains patients appropriately, lifts and moves a loaded stretcher into an ambulance while always practicing safe lifting procedures.
* Performs airway interventions, vital signs, blood glucose measurement, patient‑specific treatments, monitoring, and interventions, including but not limited to: CPR, defibrillation, medication administration, and mechanical ventilation, as per Moffat County EMS Protocols.
* Observes, records, and reports patients’ conditions, and reactions to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents to physician or Registered Nurse.
* Directs and coordinates patient care with other agency (i.e., fire and police) personnel and other employees.
* Drives ambulance to and from emergency and non‑emergency scenes in a manner appropriate to dispatch direction, patient condition, and in accordance with driving laws, at all times considering due regard for the safety of self and others.
* Communicates with the physician and other medical personnel via radio or telephone.
* Completes all reports, including patient care records, legibly, accurately, and by the end of shift or end of every 24‑hour period as required per CDPHE.
* Completes daily assigned chores during each shift, including vehicle inspection, Operative IQ, etc.
* Performs all duties in a safe, courteous, confidential, and professional manner, always taking into account the well‑being of the patient.
* Mentors, trains, and encourages fellow staff as needed, to help them attain their full potential.
* Maintains response readiness consistent with Moffat County’s response criteria.
* Uses safety and PPE equipment as required by law and EMS Department policies.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

* Establishes and maintains effective verbal and written communication, fostering positive working relationships with patients, staff, and vendors.
* Adheres to the MRH attire and dress code in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
* Exhibits initiative and self‑motivation; maintains a consistent level of productivity and manages time and responsibilities effectively.
* Completes all required annual education, training, in‑services, and licensure/certification updates; actively participates in departmental and organizational meetings or reviews meeting minutes as required.
* Maintains strict patient confidentiality at all times.
* Reports to work punctually and completes assigned duties within established timeframes.
* Actively contributes to departmental and organization‑wide performance improvement and continuous quality initiatives.
* Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, maintaining adherence to departmental, hospital, state, and federal standards and policies.
* Follows all infection control, safety, and risk management procedures to maintain a safe environment for patients, the public, and staff.


Qualifications

* Must be at least 21 years of age.
* Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
* Must successfully pass a background check.
* Must successfully pass a pre‑employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
* Must complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.
* Must possess a clean driving record and pass a Motor Vehicle Records Check and meet insurability Guidelines (if applicable) – see below:
o Must possess a valid driver’s license
o Must not have three (3) or more violations in three years
o Must not have any of the following violations, regardless of the time period:
+ Homicide involving a vehicle
+ Using a vehicle to elude an officer
+ Hit and run
+ Manslaughter with a vehicle
+ Felony with a vehicle
+ False report to police department
+ Permitting an unlicensed driver to drive
o Any two or more preventable accidents in 3 years – a preventable accident is any traffic accident which results in property damage and/or personal injury, regardless of who was injured, what property was damaged, to what extent, or where it occurred, in which the driver in question failed to exercise every reasonable precaution or action to avoid the accident. Driving to avoid preventable accidents is defensive driving. The fact that the driver was not charged with a traffic violation by law enforcement is not a part of our definition.
o Any driver convicted of any of the following within the last five years:
+ Any alcohol or drug‑related offense, including, but not limited to, driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.


EDUCATION, LICENSURE(S), AND CERTIFICATION(S)


Required

* ☒ Unencumbered license/Certification(if applicable)
* ☒ Valid driver’s license
* ☒ Valid Colorado EMT, AEMT, EMT‑Intermediate, or Paramedic Certificate as it applies.
* ☒ Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire).
* ☒ I.C.S. 100
* ☒ I.C.S. 700
* ☒ Current Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO) 4 or 5
* ☒ IV Certification (required prior to clearance to independent duty)

* ☑ Previous EMS experience.
* ☑ General knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office products.

* ☑ Completion of Preceptor Training Module
* ☑ Two (2) years of field experience as an EMS provider.
