Who You Are You are a qualified social worker with credentials such as a Degree in Social Work, DipSW or an equivalent. You are registered with the HCPC and have a thorough understanding of relevant legislations like the Children Act 1989, 2004 for children and families, and the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA), the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) for adults. Your skills include exceptional organisational abilities and being up-to-date with the current issues faced by social workers. Your experience is vast and includes working with carers and a wide variety of statutory work such as assessment, planning, safeguarding, and court work. You possess excellent communication skills and are adaptable with regards to team allocation to meet the service needs. Past experience with Local Authority and a diverse range of families with differing issues and needs would be beneficial. What the Job Involves As a social worker, your tasks will include taking on caseloads, performing a range of community care and safeguarding assessments on complex or unusual cases and ensuring risks are managed appropriately. You will focus on the safeguarding and duty of care of adults and children, balanced with the promotion of their well-being, independence, choice, and control. Part of your role includes providing advice and performing financial support assessments. You will also supervise casework, guide less experienced staff, ensure value for money through interventions and take part in the supervisory process with your manager. You will work across organisational boundaries and contribute to the work of multi-agency teams. You will work five out of seven days a week, which may include weekends and unsocial hours if you are in the Department of Adult Social Services. Child and Young People Department employees may need to work beyond office hours. Travelling within or outside the Borough may also be required.
