Overview
We are looking to appoint a passionate Clinical, Counselling or Forensic Psychologist to join the Trust's inpatient rehabilitation teams based on Phoenix Ward and at Burntwood Villas step-down service, both located at Springfield Hospital.
Phoenix Ward is a Level 2 high dependency rehabilitation ward focusing on managing severe and complex mental disorders within the recovery model. The ward has 16 beds; all patients are detained under the Mental Health Act. The expected length of stay is six months to a year. Burntwood Villas is a Level 1 Community Rehabilitation facility with an 8-bedded unit and a satellite self-contained 4-bedroom unit. The expected length of stay is six months to a year.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will provide psychological assessments and deliver group and individual treatment interventions to patients from both services. They will also educate, train and consult to MDT colleagues across the rehabilitation pathway (including psychiatrists, nurses, OTs, and assistant psychologists) and may contribute to service-wide initiatives and improvement projects drawing on their specialist clinical expertise. Regular one-to-one clinical supervision is provided, with peer supervision available via the Trust's Forensic Psychology and Psychotherapies team. The postholder will be supported to undertake relevant further training as required.

Job responsibilities
To provide specialist psychological assessments using complex data from various sources (including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, interviews with clients, families and others involved in care).
To formulate and implement plans for formal psychological treatment and/or management of mental health problems and offending behaviour, based on an evidence-based framework across the full range of care settings.
To deliver a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, adjusting models as needed based on feedback and outcomes, and maintaining provisional hypotheses.
To evaluate treatment options considering theoretical and therapeutic models and complex factors shaping individuals, families or groups.
To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment and discharge of clients within psychologically based care plans.
To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing to formulation, diagnosis and treatment plans.
To contribute to a psychologically informed framework of understanding and care for all residents, and to undertake risk assessment and risk management, offering specialist advice to NHS professionals and external agencies concerned with public protection where necessary.
To communicate information about assessments, formulations and treatment plans in a skilled and sensitive manner and to monitor progress within a multi-disciplinary care setting.
Person specifications
Training & Qualifications Essential: Doctorate level training in clinical, forensic or counselling psychology (including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and two or more psychology therapies as accredited by the BPS); HCPC registration for the appropriate domain.
Desirable: Further postgraduate training in professional psychology, mental health practice or research design/analysis; training in clinical supervision of psychological therapy practice; advanced supervision training in therapeutic models (e.g., psychodynamic, systemic, CBT, MBT, or DBT).
Experience Essential: Experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of mental health problems, personality disorder and offending behaviour; experience co-facilitating psychosocial groups; experience in a Multi-Disciplinary Team; experience in a multicultural framework; qualified applied psychologist with assessed experience.
Desirable: Experience in forensic and/or substance misuse services; experience in leading service development and leading research projects.
Knowledge & Skills Essential: Strong communication skills for complex, sensitive information; advanced skills in psychological assessment, formulation, intervention and management; high-quality report writing; commitment to evidence-based therapies; ability to engage in clinical governance and supervision; doctoral-level knowledge of research methodology and multivariate data analysis.
Desirable: Knowledge of specialised psychological therapies for secure settings; high-level knowledge of at least two therapies; high-level neuropsychological assessment skills.
