What You’ll be doing:
KBS Maritime are recruiting a safe and professional Mechanical Fitter to carry out both planned and reactive maintenance on a wide range of equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, forklift trucks, cranes, trailers, portable generators, Manitou Rotary Telehandlers, and Charlatte tow trucks. The successful candidate will demonstrate a sound understanding of KPIs, ensuring all maintenance and repair work is completed well within reporting boundaries.
You will have a flexible attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team, while also being confident working independently when required. Responsibilities include maintenance, repair, and testing of mechanical systems, plant, and machinery. A key part of the role involves developing and maintaining positive relationships with customers, managing their expectations and needs professionally. You will also be part of an on-call roster to cover Harbour Radar repairs during both normal and out-of-hours periods.
The role requires you to remain alert to changing requirements and resource availability, providing direct and regular feedback to the Team Leader regarding any issues or delays. You will use a mobile device to manage and deliver tasks assigned via the mobile application. As a multiskilled engineer, you will be expected to take a proactive approach in all working environments, demonstrating a positive, can-do attitude.
You’ll Have:
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have completed a mechanical apprenticeship or possess proven experience and knowledge in mechanical theory and principles. You may have already gained or be working towards industry-accredited qualifications such as NVQ or City & Guilds.
You should be competent in using a wide range of hand tools and equipment, with experience in mechanical maintenance on plant—particularly forklift trucks (FLTs) and cranes. A strong background in mechanical fault finding and rectification, including the ability to provide detailed reports, is essential.
Experience working with technical specifications and a solid understanding of safe systems of work are important. You must be able to work under pressure, effectively schedule and coordinate tasks, and maintain operational efficiency. A good working knowledge of Health and Safety best practices and IT literacy are also required.
