Job Description: Trainee Traffic Maintenance Engineer, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom (On-site)

When you join our Engineering Team at Telent, you'll be empowered to innovate and drive common solutions, working closely with technical experts who are proud of the impact their work makes. Come join a high-performing team doing complex and critical work. Help build and keep the nation's critical infrastructure connected and protected 24/7.

Reporting into the Contract Manager, the Trainee Traffic Maintenance Engineer will join a talented team of Traffic Signals specialists in the Oxfordshire region. Due to growth and demand from our customer(s), we are in a position to grow our Traffic team in this region.

What you’ll do:

As a Trainee Traffic Maintenance Engineer, you will work closely with an experienced Traffic Engineer to troubleshoot, fix, maintain, and test a range of Traffic Signals / Traffic Lights and electrical equipment associated with them, in and around the Oxfordshire region.

Training isn’t classroom-based; it is a healthy mix of ‘on the job’ learning, providing you with an opportunity to work towards an NVQ in Electrical Installations and sector-based certifications such as ECS and the Highways Sector Scheme (NHSS) Chapter 8.

Who you are:

You will naturally have an interest in troubleshooting, fixing, testing, and maintaining electrical equipment, with some exposure to electrical work—whether through outdoor lighting, CCTV, controllers, detection boxes, telecommunications/radio equipment, or related college courses/diplomas.

Key Requirements:

* Motivation and willingness to learn on the job and via online learning
* Previous experience in electrical testing, maintenance, fixing, or installing, or a holder of an electrical course/diploma or similar
* Ability to problem-solve and generate ideas—thinking outside the box and working through fault-finding instructions
* Full UK Driving Licence and residence in Oxfordshire
* Willing to undertake a Drugs & Alcohol test to ensure compliance

What we offer:

A career at Telent spans many sectors, roles, technologies, and clients, offering opportunities to develop, learn new skills, and make an impact. We are growing, and we rely on our committed team to deliver.

We foster talent through our ongoing commitment to an inclusive culture that respects and values diversity, celebrating ideas and differences. We want everyone to feel they can be themselves and thrive at work.

The additional benefits with this role:

* Company Van
* 34 days holiday including public holidays, with options to buy or sell days, or 26 days plus public holidays with similar options
* Company pension scheme
* Family-friendly policies
* Occupational health support and wellbeing portal
* Discounts on cinema, restaurants, shopping via Telent Reward scheme
