Research Associate in Cosmology
School of Physics and Astronomy
Responsibilities
* Characterise and interpret state‑of‑the‑art Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) data from the Simons Observatory.
* Design the LiteBIRD mission.
* Work across the Cardiff Astronomy and Astronomy Instrumentation groups, contributing to research on gamma‑ray bursts, gravitational waves, supernovae, cosmic dust, star formation, and the development of next‑generation ground and space‑based telescopes.
Qualifications
* Completed or near‑completion PhD in Physics, Cosmology, Astrophysics, Astronomy or a closely related field.
* Established track record in characterisation, cosmological exploitation of CMB data or microwave sky simulations, and statistical modelling required at likelihood level.
Benefits and Salary
£41,064 – £46,049 per annum (Grade 6). Full‑time, fixed‑term for 2 years, starting November 2026.

Bydd y cymdeithion ymchwil yn gweithio ar nodweddu a dehongli data CefndirMicrodonnau Cosmig (CMB) o'r radd flaenaf o Arsyllfa Simons a ar gynlluniotaith LiteBIRD. Rydym yn chwilio am ymchwilwyr sydd â hanes diamheuol onodweddu data ar y CMB a’i ddefnyddio'n gosmolegol neu efelychiadau awyrmicrodon, a'n modelu ystadegol sy'n ofynnol ar lefel tebygolrwydd.
Bydd y cymdeithion ymchwilyn gweithio ar draws grwpiau Seryddiaeth Caerdydd a Offeryniaeth Seryddiaeth.
Mae'r swydd dydy'r gymdeithion ymchwil yn dduddio o fis Tachwedd 2026 am ddwy flynedd, neu nes bod cyllid ar gael.
Mae angen i chi fod â PhD neu fod yn agosáu at orffen eich rhaglen ymmaes Ffiseg, Cosmoleg, Astroffiseg, Seryddiaeth neu faes cysylltiedig agos.
