Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.
The Role:
As the BEV Thermal Integration Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end integration of thermal systems across Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) platforms. This includes managing heat flux, cooling loops, and thermal interfaces between battery, power electronics, electric drive units (EDUs), and cabin systems. Youll lead cross-functional collaboration to ensure thermal performance, energy efficiency, and regulatory compliance are achieved across all programme phases.
This is a strategic and technically demanding role, ideal for engineers with deep expertise in thermal systems and a passion for electrification.
Area of Responsibility
Lead the integration of propulsion and vehicle thermal systems across BEV platforms
Define and deliver Heat Flux Management System (HFMS) architecture and strategy
Collaborate with CAD, CAE, and simulation teams to validate thermal performance
Ensure compliance with thermal safety standards and homologation requirements
Manage thermal interfaces between battery, EDU, inverter, and HVAC systems
Support virtual builds and physical testing, including thermal cycling and soak tests
Drive resolution of thermal-related issues using structured problem-solving tools
Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge transfer across teams
Align programme delivery with customers Product Creation Delivery System (PCDS)
Engage with suppliers to ensure robust and manufacturable thermal solutions
Knowledge / Experience
Proven experience in powertrain domain & mainly in Powertrain cooling, thermal system integration within ICE, BEV or hybrid platforms
Strong understanding of cooling systems, heat exchangers, and thermal modelling
Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g. CATIA V5/V6) and simulation environments
Knowledge of battery thermal management and pressure equalisation strategies
Experience with programme delivery and cross-functional collaboration
Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Thermal Engineering (or equivalent)
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable Attributes
Familiarity with refrigerant systems and alternative cooling technologies
Experience with cell venting and emergency thermal management strategies
Knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g. UN ECE R100, ISO 26262)
Six Sigma or Green Belt certification
Passion for sustainability and energy efficiency
