Shevington High School Shevington Lane Shevington Wigan WN6 8AB Salary: Grade 7, 26,411 - 29,462 per annum. 30 hours per week, term time working 38 weeks per year Hours: 30 hours per week, term-time only (MondayThursday 08001600hrs, Friday 08001530hrs) Required for September 2025 At Shevington High School, we are deeply committed to fostering a supportive pastoral environment where all students can succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. We are seeking to appoint a caring, compassionate, and dedicated School Counsellor to join our successful pastoral team. This crucial role involves promoting positive mental health and resilience, offering one-to-one support and delivering a confidential, impartial, and professional counselling service to our students and working closely with staff, students and families to create a safe and supportive environment. This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our students, supporting their emotional well-being and personal development throughout their school journey, helping navigate challenges and reach their full potential. If you are passionate about student welfare and have the skills to provide a listening ear, professional guidance, and emotional support, we would love to hear from you. Key responsibilities include: Providing one-to-one counselling for students addressing a wide range of emotional, social, and mental health issues (e.g., anxiety, low mood, bereavement, family issues, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, exam stress). Conducting initial assessments to identify student needs and appropriate therapeutic interventions. Working collaboratively with our pastoral leads, Inclusion Officer, Safeguarding Team, SENCO, and other school staff to ensure integrated support for students. Signposting students and families to external specialist services, such as CAMHS or local mental health support teams. Maintaining accurate and confidential records in line with professional and ethical guidelines (e.g., BACP, UKCP). Contributing to the development of the school's overall mental health and well-being strategy. Participating in regular professional development. Adhering strictly to safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
