Surveillance Planner Team Leader – Counter Terrorism Policing
Join West Midlands Police as a Surveillance Planner Team Leader in the Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) department. The role is based in modern offices near Birmingham Airport and involves managing a team that plans and coordinates CT surveillance assets.

Key Responsibilities
* Supervise a team of surveillance planners.
* Ensure each surveillance deployment complies with RIPA, the Police Act 1997, CPIA and other legislation.
* Oversee evidential capturing and exhibit of all product from surveillance deployments, ensuring timely dissemination.
* Identify and implement best practices in planning, briefing and disclosure.
* Deliver operational briefings to surveillance teams and specialist audiences.
* Plan and research all information relevant to a deployment in liaison with CTPWM departments.
* Coordinate with partner agencies nationally and regionally to meet operational requirements.
* Maintain knowledge of surveillance techniques and technologies.
* Perform any other duties commensurate with the role or band/grade.
Essential Skills and Competencies
* Experience in covert policing operations with knowledge of RIPA, CPIA, and relevant legislation.
* Working knowledge of legal issues affecting covert investigations.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills across all levels.
* Problem‑solving ability under pressure and tight timelines.
* Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
* Analytical skills to condense and select relevant information.
* Ability to work independently and with initiative.
* Commitment, dedication and flexibility.
Desirable
* Experience in covert investigations where surveillance was used.
* Experience as an Exhibits or Disclosure officer.
* Knowledge of counter‑terrorism work.
* Knowledge of current surveillance technology advances.
Security Clearance
Role requires British Nationality and Enhanced Developed Vetting. Security clearance will be conditional on successful vetting.
