Associate – Police Law (Defendant)
2–5 years PQE | Police & Emergency Services Team | Manchester
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Associate (ideally 2–5 years PQE) to join our Police & Emergency Services team based in Manchester.
The Team
Led by Siobhan Mullins, the team is seeking a talented solicitor to manage their own caseload while supporting colleagues across a broad range of civil actions. These include claims involving assault, false imprisonment, serious injury, data protection breaches, Equality Act violations, and human rights claims. The team is highly regarded for its expertise in defending civil actions brought against police forces and is frequently instructed on complex, high‑profile matters. This includes cases relating to terrorism incidents, deaths in police custody, and failures to secure timely medical intervention following catastrophic injuries in custody. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse and often high‑profile caseload on behalf of multiple police forces and their insurers. In addition to civil litigation, the team is currently instructed on significant group litigation and a major public inquiry. The wider practice also advises major insurers and corporate clients on catastrophic injury and large loss (CILL) claims, including matters arising from workplace incidents, sexual assault, harassment, and stress‑related claims. Candidates with defendant insurance or large loss experience are therefore encouraged to apply. We offer a supportive team environment and a hybrid working model, with two days per week in the Manchester office and three days working from home.
