About the role
Balfour Beatty Highways has an exciting opportunity for a Survey Manager to join our team on the Hyde project. You will be responsible for delivering and managing all land survey requirements for the project, including engineering control, topographic survey, engineering surveying, and setting out. You will provide the site team with accurate construction information, assist in QA/QC, and support Health & Safety and sustainability initiatives within the survey department. You will also lead and develop the future strategy of survey projects and support tender processes, including budgeting forecasts.
What you'll be doing
You will establish standardised formats for all survey deliverables and ensure they are produced to deadlines in accordance with the site programme. You will confirm that site-specific tolerances are realistic, achievable, and implemented, while managing the safe and secure storage and archiving of survey data. Early engagement with design partners will ensure that Issued for Construction (IFC) deliverables are suitable for construction, including reviewing for buildability. You will share knowledge, lessons learned, and case studies within all Balfour Beatty survey communities and manage the survey team's compliance with the latest Company Business Management Systems. You will be responsible for implementing safe working systems for the team, driving hazard identification, and preparing site safety briefings including Work Package Plans (WPP), Risk Assessments (RA), and Task Briefing Sheets (TBS). You will consider all environmental impacts generated from survey activities. You will ensure checks on survey equipment are carried out, carry out QA on design deliverables prior to release to construction teams, and ensure site teams receive information from design deliverables in suitable construction formats. You will manage deliverables of independent survey checks throughout the construction process. You will complete Quality Assurance (QA) records, manage the issuing of as-built drawings from survey data, and ensure hold point checks are carried out in accordance with the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP). You will oversee the management, collation, and delivery of required survey records to support commercial management, maintain the inventory of survey equipment and consumables, advise on equipment procurement, staffing levels and training requirements, and manage commercial risks associated with survey works.
Who we're looking for
You will be a full member of a recognised professional institution (CinstCES, RICS, or ICE), with effective communication and negotiation skills. You will take a collaborative approach to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) matters and have extensive knowledge of survey-specific procedures. You will be proficient in IT applications and experienced in settlement monitoring systems, methods, and technologies. You will have experience in geodetic requirements associated with projects, establishing GNSS networks, and design, construction, and surveying within a construction environment. You will also have experience in organising and managing site survey teams.
