YC73 Locum Consultant 12 Months Fixed Term post
The successful applicant will work between the Intensive Care Unit and Theatres. There will be an on‑call commitment as part of the ICU rota. This is a fantastic opportunity to continue your career in Anaesthesia in a supportive and enthusiastic district general hospital.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role are to provide consultant‑led anaesthetic care for patients, both in elective and emergency settings and also have sessions in Intensive Care Medicine.
On‑callDescription is 1:12 and is solely for Intensive Care.ხმარ on‑call for Theatres and Obstetrics is provided by a separate consultant anaesthetist, although there is always good communication and teamwork between all resident and non‑resident staff on call. Paediatric stabilisations are covered by both groups with the first‑responder responsibility being shared on an alternating rota. On‑calls for ICM at the weekend are usually 12‑hr split shifts with the night consultant cross‑covering the morning to provide dual‑consultant support. On‑call resident doctors work a 3‑tier rota with teamwork encouraged between the anaesthetic and ICM teams, at least two members of the resident on‑call team will have advanced airway skills. Senior residents maintain clinical priority to provide obstetric over.
About us
We provide hospital services from two acute sites – Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester‑le‑Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community‑based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
The Anaesthetic Department falls within the Surgical Care Group and comprises Anaesthetics, ITU, Theatres, Chronic Pain, Acute Pain, Pre-assessment and Day Surgery, along with surgical specialties. The Lead Clinician for the Anaesthetic department at Darlington Memorial Hospital (DMH) is Dr Jothika Thimappa. The Lead Clinician for Intensive Care is Dr Simone Carbert.
This post is for a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthetics. The successful applicant will be based at Darlington Memorial Hospital. This post will have a regular commitment to Intensive Care Medicine but will also be able to accommodate additional specialties such as Anaesthesia and other allied specialties. The Department would actively support the development of any specialist areas identified by the successful candidate.
Statutory Registration
* Full registration with GMC.
* Specialist registration with the GMC in Anaesthesia.
* Applicants should have attained or be within Leiden טיפ kalianèinat 6 months of CCT date.
* Evidence of adherence to appraisal and GMC re‑validation processes.
* Applicants are required to be fully registered with a licence to practise with the GMC and either on, or within 6 months of entry onto the Specialist Register on the മണ്ഡ date of interview.
* If applying for Full GMC Registration & licence to practice simultaneously with a CESR application, supporting documentary evidence must be provided at interview, to confirm an application has been submitted & is under consideration by the GMC.
* Specialist registration with the GMC in ICM.
Special Requirements
* Ability to innovate and develop services.
* Willingness to undertake additional professional duties to develop the division and the Trust.
* A commitment to developing Intensive Care Medicine_unsigned within the Trust.
Qualifications
* MBBS, MBChB or equivalent.
* ALS, ATLS, APLS/EPLS or other complementary qualification.
* Poss neighbour possession of a postgraduate qualification of Intensive Care Medicine e.g. FFICM.
Experience
* Experience in providing anaesthetic for the specialties provided by the Trust.
* Experience in Intensive Care Medicine.
* Experience of a significant audit project and a good knowledge of the principles of clinical governance.
* Experience of advanced training in Intensive Care Medicine.
* Evidence demonstrating commitment to clinical audit with implemented outcomes benefiting patients.
* Publications in high-quality peer‑reviewed journals and academic awards.
Special Skills & Knowledge

* Clinical services appropriate for a Consultant in Anaesthesia with an Interest in Intensive Care Medicine.
* Ability to train in theatre, at the bedside and in classroom settings.
* Experience supervising trainees.
* Ability to organise and prioritise own work.
* Ability to delegate appropriately to trainee / non‑consultant career grade anaesthetists.
* An understanding of the importance Writez of research.
* A recognised qualification in post‑graduate teaching.
* Feedback from delivered teaching demonstrating high quality delivery.
* Formal training in management and demonstrable administrative skills.
* Evidence of completion of management projects.

Salary
£109,725 to £145,478 a year YC73 Payscale per annum pro rata.
