Job Summary
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) collects over 7,000 blood donations daily, providing vital blood and blood products to save and improve lives. Our team offers a welcoming environment for volunteer donors, ensuring exceptional care.
As a Healthcare Assistant – Blood Donation, you'll learn valuable skills and be an essential team member, playing a vital role in saving lives. Work primarily in Donor Centres and out in the community, not in hospitals.
Main duties of the job
Gain hands-on healthcare skills and start your NHS career. Learn to set up sessions, take blood, and be the first point of care for donors. Maintain accurate records, handle blood and medical equipment safely, and provide excellent service to encourage repeat donations. Work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, with no night shifts, alongside medical professionals, offering more autonomy than similar NHS roles. The role involves working on a shift basis, typically five days a week, with some long hours but no more than five days per week.

* Experience delivering quality customer service
* Willingness to learn new technology skills and undergo digital training
Qualifications and Training
* Good numeracy and literacy skills
* Willing to undertake development and training, including the Skills for Health Care Certificate
* Valid full UK Manual Driving Licence with no more than 6 penalty points

Applicants will need to demonstrate the personal attributes outlined in the attached recruitment profile. Shortlisted candidates will attend an in-person blood collection session tour and a face-to-face interview. Virtual interviews or tours are not available. Travel expenses are not reimbursed.
