Otterburn Primary School and Nursery is a small, friendly and thriving rural school situated in the heart of our local community. We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic and committed Class Teacher to join our team for a fixed-term period of approximately 52 weeks, to cover the absence of the substantive post holder.
The successful candidate will primarily teach our Key Stage 1 composite class (Years 1, 2 and 3), which is also taught by the Headteacher for part of the week. This is a part-time role (0.4–0.6 FTE), and to provide consistency for the children, the working pattern would ideally be over consecutive days.
Due to the nature of our small rural setting, there will also be occasions to teach other age groups to provide planning, preparation and assessment (PPA) cover for colleagues.
As a small school, we have two full-time class teachers and this part-time post, alongside our SENCo/Headteacher. Subject leadership responsibilities are shared across the teaching team and there is an expectation that each teacher leads an area of the curriculum. The specific subject area for this post will be discussed further with the successful candidate, taking into account their interests and experience.
We are looking for a flexible, reliable and passionate teacher who will commit fully to the post and contribute positively to our school community.
The successful candidate will:
* Be an excellent classroom practitioner with high expectations for all pupils.
* Demonstrate flexibility, reliability and a positive approach to working in a small school environment.
* Inspire, motivate and engage children through creative and inclusive teaching.
* Take responsibility for leading an area of the curriculum, with support provided as needed.
* Commit to the role for the duration of the fixed-term period, working collaboratively with colleagues and families.
* Contribute positively to the life and ethos of our school and wider community.
We can offer:
* A welcoming and nurturing school environment.
* Enthusiastic and well-behaved children who love learning.
* A supportive, collaborative and friendly staff team.
* Opportunities for continued professional development.
Please note:
This post is linked to the temporary absence of the substantive post holder. If circumstances change and the planned period of absence does not take place or if the post holder returns earlier than anticipated, the fixed-term contract may be ended early or withdrawn prior to commencement. Appropriate notice will be given in line with employment regulations.
The anticipated start date for this post is Monday 8th December 2025, however this may vary depending on the circumstances of the substantive post holder’s leave.
This post is not suitable for Early Career Teachers (ECTs).
